A brief history
of the Wabash Valley Crisis Pregnancy Center

The very first Crisis Pregnancy Center of the Wabash Valley opened in March of 1988 on South 8th Street.brazil center At that time we provided free pregnancy tests, counseling, maternity clothes and baby items. Our second CPC opened in Brazil in 1991 which provided the same services.In 1992 we provided the Creating Positive Relationships program in the public schools and have continued averaging around 7,000 students each year. In 1997 the Vigo County School Corporation mandated this abstinence based program for all middle schools.

We began medical services in 1999 by providing limited ultrasounds. In 2002 we expanded by offering HIV screening free to the community. In 2005 our expansion included STD screening for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia. We opened our 3rd center on 7 South 6th Street in 2007 to service the ISU students. We also implemented the Earn While You Learn mentoring program where clients would learn valuable parenting skills as well as earn points to buy new baby items in our boutique. In 2009 we again expanded our medical services to include treatment for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. Free. Additional medical services were added in 2012 such as testing for Syphilis, Hepatitis B & C, Trichomoniasis, Herpes and urinalysis when needed. For women we also offered Pap smear, testing for bacterial vaginosis, yeast infection and breast examinations in Terre Haute.

Brazil CPCIn 2013 we expanded the Earn While You Learn program to the Brazil center. Beth Hines (Nurse Practitioner), Dixie Swan (Nurse Manager), Rita Linton (volunteer Nurse)We also began all medical services at the Brazil center as well.

In 2015 we began offering blood draws to confirm pregnancy with a lab cost of just $10.

In August of 2015, the Poplar and Campus center closed and merged into one facility at our new location on 530 Wabash Avenue
